Operation Jumpstart Association Director, Ms Sayinile Zungu. Message for 16 June 2026 – Youth Day

Dear friends, partners, and young leaders,

Today, on Youth Day 2026, we gather in gratitude, pride and renewed commitment as we mark the 50th anniversary of the Soweto Uprisings. Fifty years ago, brave schoolchildren and young people stood up for the right to learn, to be seen and to shape the future. Their courage changed our nation — and their legacy lives on in every young voice that refuses to be silenced.

At Operation Jumpstart Association we celebrate that legacy by investing in skills, opportunity and hope. We see young people in our programmes not as problems to fix but as partners with creativity, resilience and ideas that can transform communities across KwaZulu‑Natal and beyond. Whether through digital skills training, community outreach, mental health support or entrepreneurship coaching, our work is a direct tribute to those who risked everything so future generations could dream bigger.

On this special day we also honour the diversity of youth across South Africa — the students, the young parents, the early-career professionals, the game changers in townships and cities, and the quiet leaders working behind the scenes. You are the ones carrying the flame: advocating for justice, building businesses, creating art and using technology to open doors for others.

To our partners and volunteers: thank you for walking this path with us. Your dedication powers programmes that turn potential into impact. To the young people we serve:

  • keep asking questions,
  • keep learning, and
  • keep leading.

Your voice matters, your skills matter, and your future is worth fighting for.

As we remember the sacrifices of 1976, let us recommit to creating the conditions young people need to thrive: quality education, access to digital tools, safe spaces for expression, and real economic opportunity. Together, we can turn remembrance into action — and action into lasting change.

Happy Youth Day 2026. Let us honour the past by investing boldly in our youth today.

In solidarity and hope,

Sayinile Zungu
Director, Operation Jumpstart Association
